Hi, so I want to talk about the three most important tools that I think podcasters need in their podcasting arsenal. I did a blog post about this the other day and I thought that maybe it was worth doing an episode on the podcast about. So my first tool, the first tool I wanna talk about is your mindset. Now why do I think mindset is a tool?

because I believe it's something you can use for success and it's something that can lead you to failure. When I started Solo Mom's Talk, my other podcast, it took me six years to get it to press record and publish. And the reason it did is because I was plagued by imposter syndrome. I wanted to know who wanted to listen to me, wanted to hear my voice.

I found all the excuses in the book not to hit publish. And like Seth Goden say, the lizard brain took over and stopped me from publishing. So that's why I believe that the mindset is your number one tool. Because in those six years, I lost a lot of time and wasted a lot of energy trying to figure it all out, doubting myself.

And so I hope this helps you to think about the tools that you need in your podcasting arsenal and which ones are important to you. So that's mindset. My second most important tools that you should have in your podcasting arsenal is a mission statement. What is a mission statement you might ask and why do we need it in podcasting?

Joe Casabona, a recent guest, agrees with me and he said, you must have a mission statement for your podcast. So ask yourself three questions. What is your podcast about? Who is it for? And why are you doing this podcast? And if you formulate answers to those three questions into a statement, one sentence or three sentences or paragraph,

J. Rosemarie Francis (Jenn) (02:25.825)
It will help you have like a roadmap, inspiration, motivation, call it what you want to keep you going and to give you something that will help you focus on your mission as a podcaster. And a lot of businesses, especially nonprofits, when they start, that's one of the things they write.

Most business will update their mission statement as they move forward. They will improve on it. And so a mission statement is a very, it's a very important tool that you could use for podcasting success. It's where you go when you feel rushed, overwhelmed, and just feel like you want to give up. Go back to that statement. Why?

who and what, and it will help you to refocus your mind. And instead of quitting, instead of pod fading like 80 % of podcasts, like 90 % of your podcasts, like 90 % of podcasters, excuse me, you can refocus on your goals of podcasting instead of pod fading. All right, so my third.

most important tools that I feel that all podcasters need in the podcasting arsenal is mentorship. Robert Andries agrees with me, another of my podcast guests, and he says that mentorship or having a mentor get you fast, get you to where you wanna go faster. So whatever your goals are for podcasting, having a mentor can help you

get there faster. Not only I believe get you there faster, but get you there period. I've known people to quit because they run into issues with podcasting. Maybe it was a technical issue and it could have been a mindset issue are they already didn't have a mission statement to refer back to. But when you have somebody that you can reach out to, you can call on, can

J. Rosemarie Francis (Jenn) (04:49.673)
and you can refer to and talk through whatever you're having a problem with or an issue with, or even if you're counting your wins, it's good to have somebody to celebrate with, right? And the mentor doesn't have to be a paid mentor. For years, Pat Flynn and John Lee Dumas and Cliff Ravenscroft were my mentors. They have no clue that they were mentoring me.

but they did mentor me because I listened and consumed a lot of the material they had, their courses, joined their groups, just so I could learn to be a better podcaster. And so if you're struggling with the idea of getting your podcast going or keeping it going, mentor, mentorship can help you do it. When I was working in a job,

I had a mentor, I had several mentors, I seek out mentors because you don't even sometime know what you know. And it's not even just for when you're struggling. When you want to move to the next level, a mentor can help you get there faster. And like I said, you don't have to pay for someone to mentor you, but it also would be helpful if you had a paid, but you could also have

someone who you pay to coach you or mentor you. think a mentor is a better fit for podcasters and coaching, especially if you're already podcasting. And so I wanted to share those three tools with you. And you know, many times we fuss over the microphone and we fuss over the tech and we fuss over the platforms, but

until those three things are in place especially number one the mindset you will struggle you will find that the struggle keeps going and you you have the same struggle ongoing so i hope this was helpful to you and i hope that you could find ways to implement these three

J. Rosemarie Francis (Jenn) (07:11.49)
The mission statement is fairly easy to do. If you need some help, just reach out to me and I'll help you through it. And whatever question you have, I'm here to answer questions for you. As a mentor of podcasters, I have mentored podcasters for the last three years. And I've done it for free. So don't be afraid to reach out and say hello and just say, just bounce your question off me because

After podcasting for the last six years, two podcasts, and I'm about to start a third and a fourth one, I have been through almost, no, every step of podcasting. And whatever could go wrong has gone wrong. And so let me help you. And thank you for watching. I'm J. Rose Marie, and I'm the host of the Tools of the Podcast trade.
